Iran is ready to increase gas exports to Armenia

We are ready to export more gas to Armenia.

According to the report of the public relations of the National Iranian gas Company, (NIGC), Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a joint press conference with Armenian Prime Minister in Tehran after signing two memorandum of understanding.

He added: The most important issue in the two countries" economic cooperation is in the field of gas and electricity which we discussed about them.

He said that during the negotiations, which was held with the presence of the Armenian PM, a wide range of issues were reviewed and agreed and stated that we still have a lot of capacities in the field of economics that must be addressed.

The president said that, in addition to the bilateral economic relationship, we agreed on the interconnection of power between Iran, Armenia and Georgia in a tripartite way and then with Russia in the form of a quadripartite agreement.

He continued: In the field of gas, in addition to increase gas exports to this country, we also have to negotiate for gas export through Armenia, while the Gulf"s connection to the Black Sea via Armenia and Georgia has been discussed too.

Armenian Prime Minister Nicole Pashinian also appreciated the warm welcome of the Iranian President and said: Energy cooperation is very important to us and fortunately, Iran is ready to increase gas exports, which will be operational by agreeing on its price.

Expressing that Armenia is determined to develop bilateral cooperation with Iran, he stated: Armenia is ready to play a role in the transit of Iranian gas to Georgia and this cooperation could be in the interests of the region.
